The Newark Unified Extended Day Program offers a Prepaid Drop-In Service Program for parents who have an emergency and need the service no more than twice during the month. The plan is not to be used to supplant the regular child care program. If you need a few hours each week or bi-weekly, you must sign up for the regular child care service of 0-6 hours per week. If you have an emergency and need more than one day, you will be charged the daily rate for Child Care according to the hours you need, if space is available.
A card good for 10 hours of childcare service may be purchased for $50.00. A card good for 20 hours of service for $100.00, will also be available. All checks or money orders should be made payable to Newark Unified School District. Upon registration, the center’s staff will issue a service card, which will be kept by that center. The staff in charge will track the hours of service utilized by each student who has a card on file. Any unused hours on the card will not be refunded.
It is required, and the parent’s responsibility, to notify the childcare center 24 hours in advance with a phone call in order to reserve a space for their child in the program. Attendance will not be allowed without a 24-hour advanced notice.
This special service is open, exclusively, to school age children, and is good only during the school year, excluding all holidays.
An Emergency Form and a Disaster Release Information form for the child must be filled out prior to service and will be kept on file at the childcare center attended. Only the center retaining this information for the child may be used.
All rules and procedures, including those for discipline and late pick-up, will follow those posted in the Child Care Handbook (available at the center). Parent(s) who pick up their child(ren) 1 minute to 15 minutes late will be charged the standard $25.00 late fee, 16 minutes and later is an additional $1.00 per minute late fee. These fees are payable upon pick-up of the child that day. Children who are not picked up by 7:00 p.m. will be referred to the Newark Police Department.
